ANALYSIS OF DISQUALIFICATIONS FOR SUBMARINE SCHOOL ACCORDING TO SOURCE FROM WHICH MEN ARE RECEIVED.

Abstract

Of 1651 candidates for Submarine School examined during October and November of 1944, 223 were disqualified by the Submarine Medical Examiner. During this period, rejections of a psychiatric type predominated. An analysis of disqualifications in terms of the sources from which men are received for submarine training shows that the percentage of disqualifications is markedly lower for schools and training centers than for other sources. The lower rate obtains especially in disqualifications of a psychiatric type (inadequate motivation, intelligence and stability). It is considered that the lower failure rate is attributable to superior selection procedures. (Author)
