METAL DIAPHRAGM RELEASED EXPLOSIVELY.

Abstract

A repeatable method of opening a metal diaphragm has been developed for use where timing is an important factor. The opening is initiated by an explosive cemented in the grooves of an 8-inch by 8-inch diaphragm. This technique, used in the NOL Shock Interaction Facility, produces a timing event repeatable within plus or minus 1 percent. (Author)
