OXYGEN DYNAMICS IN BLOOD AND CEREBRAL TISSUES AT ALTITUDE UNDER EXCESSIVE PRESSURE: EXPERIMENTS ON DOGS.
Abstract
CONCLUSIONS: With inhalation of oxygen under excess pressure, combined with effective external counterpressure, the oxygen supply of the animal organism at an altitude of 30,000 m. is determined by the level of intrapulmonary pressure. With absolute pressure in the lungs of 150 mm. of mercury column, at an altitude of over 12,000 m. a lowered oxygen blood saturation and a reduction in pO2 in the arterial blood and cerebral tissues are observed. With intrapulmonary pressure of 200 mm. of mercury column, blood oxygenation indices and pO2 in brain tissues are near the levels found on earth. (Author)
