CORRELATIONS OF TESTS WITH GRADES IN SUBMARINE SCHOOL.

Abstract

Correlation coefficients with grades in five submarine schools for enlisted men are reported for tests of the Navy Basic Battery, and for certain other selection devices. The population of submarine schools can be improved with respect to training performance by further selection on the basis of test scores. A combination of scores for the General Classification Test, Arithmetic Reasoning Test, and Mechanical Knowledge Tests is a better index of grades in Submarine School than is the General Classification Test score alone. The ages of students are related to grades in Submarine School, but the degree of relationship does not warrant any change in present age standards in order to improve training performance. Similarly, no change in standards for educational level is indicated. The degree of relationship between grades in Basic Submarine School and grades in advanced schools of specialty is shown for four advanced schools. Reliability data for grades in Basic Submarine School are reported. (Author)
