DEVELOPMENT OF EDIBLE MOUTH COOLANTS

Abstract

The report covers investigations relative to the selection and evaluation of edible substances that could alleviate the oral discomfort associated with thirst. A discussion is also made relative to the rationale of tests that utilize animals to screen substances for thirst-alleviating properties, screening tests that were evaluated, and description of the procedure used in experiments in which human taste panels were utilized to evaluate four substances that appeared to be effective in preliminary tests. Results of the taste panel experiments are also reported.
