ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF ZINC OXIDE AND RELATED CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The aim of this investigati on is the elucidation of the electronic energy band structure of zinc oxide and related wurtzite-type crystals, including alloys of zinc oxide and zinc sulfide; zinc sulfide; zinc selenide; and zinc telluride. The principal features of the band structures of these crystals will be determined, and these features will be related to important optical and electronic properties. An attempt will be made to understand the systematic variation of band structure with chemical composition in the sequence ZnO, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe, as well as the relationship between the band structures of the cubic and hexagonal modifications of a crystal such as ZnS.
