NOMINAL 36,000-BTU/HR, COMPACT, VERTICAL, 208-VOLT, 3-PHASE, 60-CYCLE (MODEL CE40VAL6) AND 208-VOLT, 3-PHASE, 400-CYCLE (MODEL CE40VAL4) AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS.

Abstract

The report covers the final engineer design testing of two nominal 36,000-Btu/hr, compact, vertical air-conditioning units. The units are floor mounted, air cooled, monochlorodifluoromethane refrigerant (R-22) charged, electric motor driven, 208 volt, 3 phase, 60 cycle (Military Model CE40VAL6) and 208 volt, 3 phase, 400 cycle (Military Model CE40VAL4). The prototype Model CE40VAL4 was designed and built with a dual-voltage capability of 208/416 volts. Because of insufficient applications, the 416-volt configuration was not tested and has since been excluded from the air conditioner family. The air conditioners have completed environmental testing and 4,000 hours of endurance testing. The report concludes: (a) The Models CE40VAL6 and CE40VAL4 vertical, compact air conditioners meet the design objectives of compact, lightweight construction; (b) both models meet all the essential QMR requirements and several of the desirable requirements; (c) the units have high cooling capacities and highly advantageous airflow characteristics; and (d) the units are suitable for applications which require large cooling capacities in a small, compact space envelope.
