EVALUATION OF THE FUSION CASTING PROCESS FOR CERAMIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

Using Al2O3 as the study material, an investigation of the fusion casting process was made. Furnaces and molds suitable for experimental casting are described. A mathematical treatment and some experimental results on heat extraction are given. The effects of minor chemical additions and vibrational casting on macro- and microstructure are shown. A technique for measuring damping capacity was developed which provided an evaluation of castings and reasons for unsoundness of castings. (Author)
