CONFIDENCE REGIONS FOR MEAN MEASUREMENTS OF HUMAN CHROMOSOMES.

Abstract

A statistical analysis of data on human karyotypes is presented. The data represent lengths of the chromosome arms in several cells from the same individual. A bivariate vector of means is computed, and confidence regions are estimated for each chromosome. These regions are ellipses whose center is at the point specified by the mean lengths of the long and short arms. When all ellipses are plotted on the same grid, the over lap gives some indication of the inability to distinguish between chromosomes. (Author)
