ABSORPTION PROCESSES DURING THE USE-UP OF ADDITIVES.

Abstract

CONCLUSIONS: In case of the work of oil with an additive in a motor, processes of the absorption and desorption of the additive on the motor parts take place in addition to the chemical interaction of the additive with the products of fuel combustion and oil oxidation. The sharp decrease in the concentration of the active additive in the oil during the first hours of the work of the oil is explained mainly by the adsorption of the additive on the motor parts (and if filters are present in the lubrication system, on them too). In the course of further operation, part of the adsorbed additive is desorbed and is returned to the oil. Results governing the consumption of the additive established on the basis of short-term tests cannot be extrapolated for a longer working period of the oil. (Author)
