UNSTEADY TWO-DIMENSIONAL POTENTIAL FLOW WITH LIFT.

Abstract

The report presents an initial effort toward the general, high-speed digital computer solution of the unsteady potential flow about lifting two-dimensional bodies of arbitrary shape executing arbitrary motions. Specifically, the initial effort is divided into two parts as follows: (1) The development of a computer program for the calculation of the flow about a single body of arbitrary shape executing arbitrary motions with a trailing vortex-sheet wake that does not deform under the action of the flow field. (2) The development of a computer sub-program that calculates the convective motions of the wake-vortex sheet. These programs, when combined, will furnish a general solution for the single body. The above described programs are written in FORTRAN IV and are designed for the IBM 7094 computer. Sample cases and comparisons with analytic results, experimental data and other theories, are presented. (Author)
