PROGRESS IN THE STUDY OF HALL-CURRENT ACCELERATION.

Abstract

The capacitor bank, necessary for the Hall current acceleration study, has been designed, developed and should shortly come into operation. The multi-cusp magnetic field configuration has been optimized to simulate as close as possible the model assumed in the theory of Haines for the Hall acceleration of a plasma. Experience has also been gained in the use of spectroscopical diagnostics of hot, dense plasmas. The electron number density and temperature, behind a strong shock wave, have been evaluated from a study of the H sub beta line. (Author)
