An Analysis of Pilots' Performances in Multi-Engine Aircraft (R5D)

Abstract

The principles of job analysis and of time and motion were applied to the task of flying a multi-engine aircraft, the R5D (the Navy equivalent of the C-54 or DC-4). Cinematographic records and voice recordings were made by two aviation psychologist during scheduled flights in July and August of 1946. These records were analyzed to determine if the methods used in industry are productive and practicable when applied to piloting.
