AN EXPERIMENT IN UNDERSTANDING: THE HARVARD PROGRAM, TWO YEARS AFTER.

Abstract

Seven substantive areas that suggest the emerging shape of the Harvard Program on Technology and Society are: the social implications of biomedical technology; information technology and the process of education; the interaction of technological and social change; work and employment; institutional processes of adaptation to change; technology and business; and science and democracy. The Program is inquiring into the effects of rapid technological change on the economy, on public policies, and on the character of the society, as well as into the reciprocal effects of social change on the nature, dimension, and directions of scientific and technological developments.
