PHASE 1 FLIGHT TEST RESULTS. VOLUME 1

Abstract

The U.S. Army XV-5A satisfactorily completed an extensive flight test program consisting of investigations of the hovering, transition and conventional flight regimes. A total of 45 flight hours were accomplished during which 53 vertical take-offs, 72 conventional take-offs, 17 fan flight mode take-offs at forward speed, and 74 conversions between fan and conventional flight modes were performed. Original flight test objectives were systematically accomplished in successfully demonstrating the feasibility of the lift fan concept of flight.
