DISCONTINUITIES IN NON-IDEAL MAGNETOGASDYNAMICS.

Abstract

The well known evolutionary condition of ideal MGD is extended to non-ideal, one-dimensional MGD characterized by arbitrary dissipation terms. It is shown that in this case discontinuities may exist fulfilling the evolutionary condition. Concluding the case of a dissipation term due to finite electrical conductivity and its effect on contact discontinuities is investigated. These discontinuities are found to be non-evolutionary and therefore physically meaningless. (Author)
