SOME TERTIARY ALCOHOLS DERIVED FROM M-CARBORANE.

Abstract

A report is given of the preparation of several tertiary diols of m-carborane, such as B10H10C2(CH3)2OH)2 and their fluorinated derivatives such as B10H10C2(C(CF3)2OH)2. These were prepared by reaction of the dilithio salt of m-carborane with the appropriate ketone. The following compounds were prepared - M-carboranyl-1,7-bis (dimethylcarbinol); m-carboranyl-1,7-bis(methyl trifluoro-methyl carbinol); m-carboranyl-1,7-bis (di-trifluoromethyl carbonol); m-carboranyl-1,7-bis(chloro difluoromethyl trifluoromethyl carbinol).
