Abstract

The directory is divided into the following sections: Section I comprises the listings for the common domestic animals (chickens, turkeys, non-inbred mice, inbred mice, hybrid mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, cattle, goats, sheep, and swine). Species are arranged by strain designation, strain origin, breeding system, and coded name and address of supplier. Section 2 lists the commercially available animals obtained from nature in phylogenetic order, beginning with the Protozoa and ending with the Chordata. Scientific name, common name, and coded name and address of supplier are given. Section 3 lists sources of tissues, organs, and fluids of various species used in research. Section 4 indicates suppliers and manufacturers of ancillary laboratory equipment, cages, feed, germ-free equipment, and washing machines. Species of animals for which they can be used, and coded name and address of supplier are provided. Section 5 gives the coded names, addresses, and telephone numbers of suppliers whose animals, equipment, and materials are listed in the directory. Section 6 is composed of two indexes-common animal name and scientific name.
