A STEREOTAXIC ATLAS OF THE BRAIN OF THE 13-LINE GROUND SQUIRREL (CITELLUS TRIDECEMLINEATUS).

Abstract

Citellus tridecemlineatus, or 13-line ground squirrel, is a seasonal hibernator and has been used extensively to investigate this phenomenon. Current awareness of the prominent role played by the brain in regulation of endocrine function further focuses attention upon the central nervous system as the potential coordinator of the phenomena associated with the hibernating process. This atlas of the brain of the 13-line ground squirrel was prepared in support of the premise that research in the field of hibernation may benefit by stereotaxic approach to deep brain structures.
