INSTRUMENT FOR MEASURING THE INTERMITTENCY OF QUASI-STEADY SIGNALS,

Abstract

A circuit is described which measures the percent of time an ac signal is non-zero. The circuit is demonstrated by analyzing the signal from a velocity transducer in turbulent air flow. Details of the measurement of intermittency in the presence of electronic noise are covered. Measurements with this new circuit are compared with intermittency values inferred from probability analysis of the signal, as well as direct graphical counting. (Author)
