PERSISTENCE PROBABILITY

Abstract

The paper consolidates many ideas--both published and suggested-- concerning the use of persistence as a practical forecast tool. Specific emphasis is placed on the construction of ceiling and visibility persistence probability (or conditional probability) tables and suggested uses as a short- period forecast aid. The paper contains a survey of published literature available in the technical files of Headquarters, 4th Weather Wing and presents many ideas and suggestions for designing improved probability tables.
