SMOOTHING RADIO ASTRONOMICAL DATA.

Abstract

Consideration is given to a radiometer output voltage which is put through an analogue filter and then sampled at uniform intervals. The resulting time series is filtered in various ways and then processed to get the desired information. Concern was mainly directed to the production of a power spectrum, with particular application to interplanetary scientillation data obtained at the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory. The ideas are more general, however, and applications exist in many other areas. (Author)
