ULTRAVIOLET SPECTRUM OF SOME POLYCHLORINATED ALKYLBENZENES.

Abstract

The ultra-violet absorption spectra of ortho-H-nonachloroethylbenzene, 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-p-xylene, alpha-H, alpha-H, alpha'-H, alpha'-H-hexachloro-p-xylene, alpha-H, alpha'-H-octachloro-p-xylene, alpha-H, alpha'-H-octachloro-m-xylene, 2,4,6-trichloromesitylene, 2H, 4H, 6H-nonachloromesitylene, alpha-H, alpha'-H, alpha(double prime)-H-nonachloromesitylene are reported. The data cover the range between 200 millimicrons and the visible region. The various effects of the substituents on the location and the value of the maximum absorptions are discussed and interpreted. (Author)
