STRESSES IN PRESSURIZED CYLINDRICAL SHELL WITH CIRCULAR CUTOUT.

Abstract

By use of a perturbation technique, the deflections and stresses in a circular cylindrical shell with a circular cutout, subject to internal pressure are determined. A computational procedure is set up to determine the stress concentration at the edge of the hole and the stresses existing at any point in the shell. In article 2 are given the general outline of the theoretical analysis, the pertinent conclusions reached, and the results of a sample calculation. The remainder of the report is devoted to the details of the theoretical work and of the sample calculation. (Author)
