HIGH PRESSURE (70 KBAR) SYNTHESIS OF NEW CRYSTALLINE LEAD DICHALCOGENIDES.

Abstract

By subjecting mixtures of the elements or of lead monochalcogenides with excess sulfur and selenium to temperatures of 600C to 2400C and pressures of 20 to 70 kilobars, it was possible to synthesize the stable crystalline compositions PbSe2, PbSSe and two polymorphs of PbS2, one of the latter appearing to be isomorphous with SnS2.
