FERROMAGNETIC RESONANCE MEASUREMENTS OF MAGNETOELASTIC CONSTANTS,

Abstract

A new method of measuring magnetoelastic constants is described which utilizes the strain dependence of ferromagnetic resonance. The magnetoelastic constants obtained using this method are presented for NiFe204, Co(.05)Ni(.95)Fe204, Yb(.1)Y(.9)IG, YIG, and Er(.1)Y(.9)IG. Most of these measurements cover the 4?K to 300 K temperature range. The results of anisotropy and linewidth measurements on all but the last two of these materials are also given. A comparison of all these results with the predictions of existing theories of magnetostriction, anisotropy, and linewidth is also included. The possibility of using the strain dependence of ferromagnetic resonance as the basis for certain microwave devices is also discussed. (Author)
