SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DISCONTINUITY IN S/N FATIGUE CURVES.

Abstract

The significance of the discontinuity in the S/N fatigue curve has been assessed by comparative testing under constant load and constant strain conditions. Reinforcement of the surface grain of a mild steel and a stainless steel have produced a large improvement in fatigue strength, the fatigue limit coinciding with the discontinuity. (Author)
