THE EFFECTS OF PRESTIGE AND IDENTIFICATION FACTORS ON ATTITUDE RESTRUCTURING AND LEARNING FROM SOUND FILMS.
Abstract
The results of this study are interpreted to lend support to the proposition that established attitudes towards a film's protagonist and theme are factors of importance to be considered in the learning process. This study suggests that it is possible to make a differential predication of learning from a motion picture by means of measures of attitudes toward characteristics of the main character which serve as indices of the potentiality for identification with the main character. The study also suggests that knowledge of an intended audience's identifications with (positive attitudes toward) persons and groups, can give major clues concerning the characteristics that should be exhibited by the main character of a motion picture in order to facilitate learning of the information and acceptance of the ideas presented in the motion picture.
