CRYSTAL CHEMISTRY STUDIES.

Abstract

Additional measurements on the rare-earth rhenium oxides were made. The resistivity (approx. 20,000 ohm-cm) and evidence of some photoconductivity were found for single crystal Beta-Nd2ReO5. The densities of Yb2ReO5 (9.79 g/cc) and Beta-Nd2ReO5 (8.14 g/cc) were measured. The systems MoO3-ReO3 and WO3-ReO3 were examined with the conclusion that no solid solution exists between these components. An attempt at single crystal growth of ReO3 was unsuccessful. Systematic work was started in the system EuO-Eu2O3-TiO-TiO2. The compounds EuTiO3, Eu2Ti2O7, and a new compound Eu2TiO5 (possibly) have thus far been detected. Additional runs have been made in the systems MgO-Cr2O3-O, CdO-Cr2O3-O, and NiO-Cr2)3-O. High oxygen pressure studies of the system Cr-Fe-O have been resumed. (Author)
