PRODUCTION OF HIGH ENERGY ELECTRICAL IMPULSES WITH AN MHD GENERATOR.

Abstract

The period covered by the report was devoted to systems and components testing, burner testing, generator excitation testing, as well as a complete configuration single circuit power test. The resulting data from the excitation and power output tests indicates close agreement with the design parameters. The single circuit power test was terminated at a magnet current of approximately 15,000 amperes and resulted in a maximum net power output of 11,000 kilowatts. During this period some problems were encountered, mainly with the older equipment, which required revisions to such items as pilot and igniter fuel systems, pilot cooling and the main fuel-nitrogen purge systems. Section II describes modification to the igniter and pilot burners and to the channel inlet section, as well as the results of the complete configuration tests. (Author)
