FUNDAMENTALS OF THE WIENER CANONICAL EXPANSION.

Abstract

Recent research by Brick and Zames has applied Wiener Canonical Forms to non-linear problems of pattern recognition. This turorial paper outlines the background material of that work. Brownian Motion is discussed in a limiting physical situation which leads naturally to the abstract Wiener Random Process. Wiener's mapping procedure is introduced to facilitate the construction of linear and non-linear functionals of the Wiener Process. A general class of non-linear systems, useful in pattern recognition applications, is then characterized in terms of these functionals. (Author)
