FLUCTUATION PHENOMENA NEAR PHASE TRANSITIONS IN CONDENSED SYSTEMS.

Abstract

Results of X-ray critical opalescence measurements at very small scattering angles are reported for the nitrobenzene-n-heptane system. Progress in the computer calculation of slit corrections for small-angle X-ray measurements is discussed. Some experimental observations on the alpha-beta quartz transition and on the demixing region of the liquid sodium-lithium system are also reported and analyzed, as are some of the experimental techniques for handling these liquid metal mixtures. The current status and future plans for these projects are reviewed. (Author)
