FAST MILLIMETER FERRITE LATCHING SWITCH.

Abstract

A latching single-pole double-throw ferrite switch has been designed and fabricated which operates in the 36 GHz frequency region. The switch consists of a folded T, a short slot hybrid and two 90 degrees latching non-reciprocal ferrite phase shifters. The switch exhibits an insertion loss of less than 0.75 db and an isolation of greater than 26 db over the frequency range of 35.9 to 37.0 GHz at a peak power of at least 50 KW. The energy required to switch the microwave energy from one port to the other at a speed of one microsecond is 20 microjoules. The switch has been successfully switched at 40 nanoseconds with a switching energy of approximately 100 microjoules. (Author)
