DECOMPOSITION CHEMISTRY OF NF2 COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

Work included: investigations of the flash photolysis-kinetic spectroscopy of NF3, N2F4=2NF2, HNF2, CINF2, and FNC12; studies of the emission spectra of electrical discharges through NF3 and N2F4=2NF2 and of flames of NF-containing oxidizers; attempts to follow the kinetics of the NF radical by means of flash photolysis-kinetic infrared spectrophotometry. The more significant results of these investigations were: elucidation of the 2600A absorption NF2; a useful apparatus for flash photolysis-kinetic spectroscopy in the vacuum ultraviolet; discovery of a transient absorption spectrum in the flash photolysis of HNF2 and assignment of the carrier as the HNF radical; discovery of an unidentified transient spectrum in the flash photolysis of FNC12; discovery of two bands in the emission spectra of flames of NF containing oxidizers which proved to be bands of the NF radical emission spectrum.
