EFFECTIVENESS OF EJECTION SEAT TRAINING WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SDC DEVICE NO. 6EQ-2.

Abstract

The attitudes of Navy and Marine pilots towards the use of the ejection seat were measured prior to and after ejection seat training, which included either the Research Tower or SDC Device 6EQ-2. The Attitude Questionnaire is described. The improvement in attitude toward ejection seat bail-outs was indicated by the change in attitude scores between the two measures. The ejection seat training program consisted of: (1) Lecture by flight surgeon; (2) Showing of a training film; and (3) Ejection on either the Research Tower or SDC Device 6EQ-2. Students pilots receiving this training were divided into two groups. One group received ejection seat training on the Research Tower, the other on the SDC Trainer. Pre-training and post-training attitude scores for the two groups of trainees are shown. Comparative pre-training data for a group of reserve pilots are included for comparison. (Author)
