THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE SPECIFICATION FOR THE PREPARATION OF MILITARY FLIGHT MANUALS.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a new specification for the preparation of flight manuals for military aircraft. This effort was initiated with the preparation of a conceptual framework to guide the development work. The framework was rationally derived and included the results of a previous and related study, NAVTRADEVCEN 748-1, Improvement of Flight Handbooks. The central feature of the framework and the resulting specification is a set of criteria for flight manual preparation. These criteria are summarized as follows: Scope: job significance, pilot preference, operating environment, previous training. Depth of Detail: complexity, uniqueness, criticality. Readability: conditions of use, consolidation of material, logical order, presentation techniques, standardization, economy. (Author)
