PRODUCTION ENGINEERING MEASURE FOR TYPE CR-(XM-60)/U CRYSTAL UNITS.

Abstract

Resistance welding as a means of lead attaching is not recommended for center mounted crystal units since pull test values are much too low. The method does not show any merit which would warrant further investigations at this time. Ultrasonic welding of leads to the blank is the only method which has not been fully investigated. Thermo-compression bonding and resistance welding was investigated to the point where they were shown to be not suitable methods of attaching center leads to low frequency crystal units. In general their pull test values are too low. Vacuum final plating can be done successfully on low frequency crystal units provided extreme accuracy is taken in the lapping and etching of the crystal loaves to frequency. (Author)
