LIGHT WEIGHT PROPELLER BLADE DEVELOPMENT.

Abstract

This work has confirmed the accuracy of the analysis used in the design of Fiberglas covered steel spar propeller blades; the weight reduction possibilities of this blade concept, the satisfactory nature of the producibility and quality repeatability attainable on this multi-material structure; and a structural strength well above anticipated operating stress levels. However, certain phases also demonstrated the desirability of performing additional studies, particularly in the areas of spar quenching, cover/spar bonding materials, spar and cover cavity fill materials, and blade surface erosion and damage.
