KINETICS OF THE TRIPLET STATE.

Abstract

The transients from benzophenone in isopentane solution were studied over a large range of temperatures confirming McClure and Hanst's identification of triplet benzophenone at low temperatures. The ketyl radical of benzophenone in water solution was observed and a quantum yield of benzophenone decomposition under flash excitation conditions was measured as 0.34. The implications of this result are discussed. The n-pi* triplet spectrum of 4-OH benzophenone and the 'charge-transfer' triplet spectra of 4-NH2 benzophenone and 3-NH2 benzophenone were measured at low temperatures. (Author)
