A METHOD FOR COMPUTING THE INCOMPLETE BETA FUNCTION RATIO. REVISED

Abstract

An efficient method is given for computing the incomplete beta function ratio I sub x(a,b), on a high speed digital computer. The arguments a, b, are limited to positive integral multiples of one-half values over the ranges 1/2 < a < 10 to the 8th, 1/2 < b < 60. The program has been coded in STRAP for the IBM 7030 (STRETCH). The average computing time for a ten decimal digit value of I sub x(a,b) is 2.6 milliseconds; on an IBM 7090 it would be about 8 milliseconds per case.
