INSTRUMENTATION, TECHNIQUES AND ANALYSIS USED AT THE NAVAL ORDNANCE LABORATORY FOR THE DETERMINATION OF DYNAMIC DERIVATIVES IN THE WIND TUNNEL,
Abstract
A summary is presented of the techniques used for making dynamic stability measurements in wind tunnel facilities. Methods are described for obtaining pitch and roll damping derivatives and Magnus force and moment coefficients. The associated instrumentation which was developed includes an electromagnetic transducer for measuring angular attitude, air bearings for pitch and roll damping supports, free flight launch systems and a highly sensitive Magnus balance.
