ALKYL AND ARYL ALUMINUM COMPLEXES. I. THE REACTION OF TRIALKYL AND TRIARYL ALUMINUM WITH BIDENTATE LIGANDS.

Abstract

A series of dialkyl and diarylaluminum complexes were prepared through the reactions of trialkyl- and tirarylaluminum compounds with bidentate ligands featuring hydroxyl and amine functionality. The dimeric nature of these compounds is explained on the basis of stereochemical considerations and NMR and infrared spectroscopy, concluding that, in all but one case, bridging is through the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the bidentate ligand.
