A SIMPLIFIED TRACKING FILTER FOR SATELLITE SYSTEMS TESTING.

Abstract

The report describes an extreme simplification of a commercial phase lock tracking filter to be used for in-house testing of satellite systems. Stability and long term drift is almost as good in the simplified model as the Electrac 215A, but the signal-to-noise performance is somewhat degraded. A bad signal-to-noise ratio should not be encountered in satellite systems testing. Phase modulation outputs and correlation outputs are provided. The system has a tracking range of 30 kilocycles, a data bandwidth of 8 kilocycles, and a tracking loop bandwidth of 10 cycles. The input center frequency is 70 kilocycles. The system is packaged on three printed circuit cards. These cards plug into a frame containing power supplies and audio amplifiers. A complete parts list is included at the end of the report.
