THE GEOS MAGNETIC CORE MEMORY UNIT.

Abstract

The GEOS Magnetic Memory Unit functions with the Memory Control Unit and the Optical Beacon System. The Memory Unit is a highly reliable, small size, low power spacecraft memory. The memory uses magnetic memory cores, and operates serially. It has a capacity of 1365 bits, and is organized into 65 - 21 bit words. The memory scans at a 22.750 bits/sec. rate, completing one scan per minute. Integrated circuits have been used for logic and timing where feasible. Magnetic core matrices have been used for memory addressing circuits. The complete memory occupies 70 cubic inches, weighs 950 grams and consumes less than 200 milliwatts. (Author)
