ON THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE OF SUBMERGED CYLINDRICAL SHELLS,

Abstract

Various methods of solution for the dynamic response of infinitely long, circular, cylindrical shells submerged in an infinite acoustic medium are discussed. Two new approximations for transient response are introduced, along with a criterion for testing the validity of some approximate solutions for other than very short times. One new approximation is based on the natural frequencies of the shell-fluid system, while the other introduces an approximation for the dependence of the fluid on the axial coordinate. This dependence has been neglected in previous investigations. Results based on new approximations are compared with those previously published. (Author)
