CONSTRUCTION AND USE OF AN INEXPENSIVE SMALL-ANIMAL TREADMILL.

Abstract

The design and construction of a 10-rat exercising treadmill is presented. Minimal shop facilities are required, and the cost does not exceed $200. An electric fence charger is used as a stimulus to induce the animals to keep running. The treadmill has been used to study the effect of exercise on the tissue level of rats exercised twice a day for 30 minute periods. The small-animal exerciser was used for 30 days without mechanical failure. (Author)
