END-FIRE-ROD SONIC BEAM FORMER.

Abstract

Experimental rod assembled of magnesium slugs welded to short cylinder shells provides wave velocity, attenuation constant, and efficiency which make it suitable for a variety of applications in submarine sonar. Beam former is easy to assemble. Directivity index is high. Front-to-back ratio is high. Drag for beams forward or aft is low. (Author)
