STATUS OF SOVIET TUBE-MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY FOR AEROSPACE APPLICATIONS,

Abstract

The report is based on Soviet open sources published 1956-1966, with some sources published as early as 1948. The first in a series, its purpose is to determine the status of Soviet tube-manufacturing technology for aerospace applications. The report is divided into five sections: (I) Tube specifications; (II) Steel tubes; (III) Heat-resistant nickel-base alloy tubes; (IV) Nonferrous metal and alloy tubes; (V) Refractory metal tubes. It discusses in detail Soviet tube specifications, shows dimensions and tolerances for various tube types, lists tube materials, briefly discusses tube-making processes and equipment, lists names, locations, and equipment of identified tube-making plants, identifies the most probable producers of aircraft tubes, and briefly discusses new developments and improvement in tube-making equipment and production techniques. Following Section V is an extensive collection of tables and figures. A bibliography of 139 entries is included at the end of the report. (Author)
