AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE USE OF EPOXY CASTING SYSTEMS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF TRANSDUCERS.

Abstract

The report gives information on experiments carried out to investigate the use of a simple epoxy gravity moulding system for making transducer components (excluding pressure sensitive elements) in small numbers, where the purchase of complex or expensive moulding apparatus would not be justified. The test results obtained from transducers using cast epoxy bodies are shown, together with an analysis of their performance under different environmental conditions. The possible saving in material cost and the reduction in weight which can be realised by employing this system is shown, and a comparison made between the time required to produce an epoxy casting and the time necessary to make the same body by normal machining methods.
