A SOLID STATE PHASE-LOCKED TRACKING FILTER.

Abstract

The report describes the operation and application of a solid state, 8 mc/s phase-locked, tracking filter which is used in conjunction with a three-frequency receiving system and data circuits to measure dispersive Doppler and attenuation of electromagnetic waves due to the ionosphere. Primary design specifications required that the tracking filter automatically lock on to the incoming signal within one second, provide a 30 db improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio of the receiver output signal, and not exceed 3 degrees phase error over the expected Doppler frequency range of plus or minus 3 kc/s. These specifications were met in laboratory tests. (Author)
